Another Important Penley/Pendley Family Researcher Passes

Jerry Penley of Kingsport, Tennessee, passed away Friday evening, April 14, 2006, at Bristol, Tennessee.  He was laid to rest April 18th.

Jerry was a leading Penley/Pendley family researcher and was the first Penley/Pendley to conduct DNA family history research.  Jerry started the Penley/Pendley DNA Project listed below.

Jerry's daughter Ann has been keeping the "Internet Family" updated on Jerry's condition.  I'm sure a lot of prayers have been said recently for Jerry and his family.

Important Pendley Researcher Passes

Harold Samuel (Sammy) Pendley Jr.,  passed away March 8, 2006 after a short illness.  His funeral was on Friday, March 10th, at Lake City, Florida.  I didn't know Sammy very well but I know he was very proud of his father, Harold Samuel Pendley Sr., who was awarded the Silver Star during World War II.

Sammy's area of Pendley research focused on the Pendleys of Pickens/Dawson Counties of Georgia and the mystery of the two Jonathans. (Sammy and I share this line of decent.)  I have been told that it was Sammy's wish that his Pendley Research go to his brother's son.

May Sammy rest in Peace.

Pendley/Penley DNA Project

from Cousin Jerry Penley in Kingsport, TN

Hi to all my Penley cousins,
In the next few days, I am going to order the testing kit for having my Y-DNA
test ran.
This test simply requires me to swab my mouth for a few minutes and then send
in the swab for them to test my DNA.
This test is for men only so if there are any women on our board who wish to
inquire about their DNA, then they will have to get one of their brothers or
their father to do this test.
The results of this test is then preserved in a database so that those who
have had the same test ran can get comparisons for their future genealogical
research.
To find out more how valuable this test is becoming, go to this URL address
and watch the video tape that you will find there:

http://www.familytreedna.com/videoaudio.html

I do hope there are several of you who wish to have this test ran so that we
can get some locks on our common ancestors in the Penley/variations lines.
Let me know if any of you are interested in having this test.

Search for Tommy Pendley, Jr. Ends

Received this email on 4/11/05 from Carl Mehling of the American Museum of Natural History.

Hi Joe,
We have our answer - Tommy Ray passed away 27 July 1999 of cancer. His wife Mona emailed me last weekend. Tommy Ray's mother Lucille Pendley, son Mark and his wife Jenny, and their son Bridger still live in Cleburne, TX and his daughter Debe lives in North Carolina. Tommy's granddaughter,
Rainbeau Davis, just emailed me and wants to come by with her 3 children (one of whom, Ryan Thomas, is named after Tommy Ray) for a shot with the tracks.

Thanks again for helping me out with this! It's really too bad that Tommy is no longer around - he's a bit of a celebrity with real dinosaur aficionados!
-Carl

Searching for Tommy Pendley, Jr

Hi Joe,

I was wondering if you might help me find a wayward Pendley. Our Museum,
back in 1940, excavated dinosaur tracks in the area of Glen Rose, TX. Tommy
Pendley Sr., a local, helped in the excavation and 3 year old Tommy Pendley
Jr. was photographed taking a bath in one of the giant tracks (see
attached). Junior is around 67, if he is still around, and I'd love to
contact him.

Thanks a million,
Carl

Doesn't Seem To Be Much Interest in an '05 National Reunion in Louisville

I've only heard from a handful of cousins.  I may have a "Get Together" here in Cincinnati.  Stay Tuned.

(Are there any Pendleys left in Kentucky?)

Hello,
I don't know if you all are the same Pendley's or not but I have recently acquired a Civil War revolver and bowie knife that belonged to Larkin Pendley of Newton Co, GA.  With it I have the widows application for Confederate pension.  Her name was Margaret A. Pendley.  I believe her maiden name was Margaret Davis Spinks.  Any info would be appreciated.  If this is not the right Pendley family, any info towards the correct Pendley's would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Mark Owen

Lets Get Organized!

I would like to establish a national Pendley family organization.  Any help, ideas or opinions would be appreciate.  For lack of a better way, and for fairness and a means for viable impute, I believe that each state should come together and organize.  Any impute from individuals or states is requested and appreciated.  All family leaders are encouraged to participate.

Annual Georgia Pendley Reunion Lots of Fun

The annual Georgia Reunion is held on the first Sunday in June.  The site of this years reunion was the very beautiful Amicalola Falls State Park in Dawson County.  This state park is the location of the tallest waterfalls in Georgia.  I also believe the Appalachian Trail begins in this park.

My New Years Resolution: get back to work on family lines.
Here's my husband's line including his son who carries on the William =
Pendley name.
1. Jonathan Pendley 1772,NC?
2. Jessie Pendley Abt 1818, NC - Mary Ann Gravitt 1823, GA
3. William Linton Pendley 1854, GA - Harriet Missouri Chamblee 1854, GA
4. Virgil Pendley 1882, GA - Anna Mae Perryman 1879, TX
5. William Linton Pendley 1908, GA - Grace Fannie Emma Adams 1916, TX

I have very little info due to the fact my parents divorced.  Joe Delmas Penley is my father.  His father was Charles M. Penley his mother was Maude Mae Brown Penley.  They had 11 children and the last I know I am the first of 52 grandchildren.  I am sure there must be alot of great grandchildren.  My Grandfather died of Black Lung.  He was a coal miner in Kentucky and a moonshiner, I heard lots of stories.  My Grandmother died at the age of 94.  My father is still alive, I don't know about the other children or my aunts and uncles.  I have J.S. Penley as my greatgrandfather.  I don't know what the J.S. stands for his wife's name was Emily Penley.  This information came out of my Baby Book.  I hope it puts a dent in your search. Good luck.  You have a very nice site here.
