descendants and related of James Pendley of western Kentucky

The individuals in this file are descendants of James Pendley and Amelia Moness Smith who left North Carolina and moved to western Kentucky about 1810. Many believe that James was born in the Shenadoah Valley of Virginia about 1765 and he is found in Grayson and Butler counties about 1810 to 1840. Most of the Pendley clan in Kentucky are descendants of this couple. Information in this file is compiled from the work of literally hundreds of researchers. But a special recognition needs to be extended to be extended to the following pioneers in the reseaarch work who made it so much easier for the rest of us. Taylor Pendley Connie Misiska Aubrey Levi Pendley, Eldon Pendley, Gary Mitchell, Merriel Austin, Hazel Rouk, Laura Pierson, Melba Best, W N Oates, Mary Matilda Kidwell Pendley and so many more. A portion of this family remained in Kentucky, but many moved to Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, California and many other areas. As a group the descendants almost universally use the Pendley spelling of the name.
