Obituary in Findagrave as: Martin Smith Pendley was the son of Solomon Moses Pendley and Judith Benson. He was a farmer by trade, and I have been told he was rotating crops long before the government reccamended it to the farmers. I have also been told that he was a very skilled craftsman, he made wagons from scratch and wagon wheels as well, putting the wooden spokes in place and aligning the outside of the wheels with metal. He could make anything out of metal. According to his children, he took in foster children from the county, and when they were old enough to set out on their own he would help them get started with a piece of land or some stock. After the depression hit he was no longer able to do that. He was also active with the school board. He was a friend to the local indians as well. They called him Mart. They said one night an indian was drunk, and he was going to going to kill Mart when he happened to come along, and another indian stepped in and told him he was not going to harm him, he was their friend.
