Will of William Pendley written in Caldwell Co, NC in 1848 and settled by daughter Synthia Pewit and son John Penley probably around 1860 provided the names of the children. From the ages of children in the 1850 census and the dates of marriages of daughters, and the lack of other Williams as head of household in Burke Co, NC in 1830 and 1840, it appears likely that this William is William Jr of 1790 census and was probably born about 1760.
According to family history, provided by Burton Pendley, William was 76 years old when John was born. William is buried in an unmarked grave about 100 yards from the Mt. Carmel baptist church near Spruce Pine, North Carolina. Burton also indicated that William was born about 1760. Burton indicated that the Will was dated 22 July 1848.
According to Avery co, NC, history, this William married Lurana. He lived in later life on the head of Carroll's Creek on property originally granted to Thomas Davenport (now Caldwell Co, NC) He was the father of Cynthia who married Captain William Puett.
