(Which other spellings of Pendley have I left out?)

My opinion about the many different spellings of the similar sounding name is:  Not until about the last one hundred years or so, did the average person learn to read and write.  Prior to then, mainly only the "well to do", and or, city dwellers, could read and write.  The average person had to rely on these more educated persons, to do their reading and writing.  These educated persons probably spelled names as they were pronounced to them.  Since Pendley is not a common name, many different spellings were committed to the public records.
