Info from "Scott Co, VA, and its people," 1992, p. 147. According to the book,
Samuel's natural father was Sam Lane of Scott Co. There were several Sam Lane's
at that time, but the 6 half-brothers and half-sisters named match some of the
children of Samuel Lane, son of William D. and Nancy Lawson. But this Samuel
Lane had 3 wives and 14 children. The note was submitted to the book by Georgia
Roberts. I talked with Georgia (Catron) Roberts, and she definitely knows that
Samuel Lane is her grandfather. She showed me his obituary, and it listed his
half-brothers and half-sisters who survived him.Family is in the Ketron Book. Samuel is given as an adopted son.
Scott Co Marriage Records 3-21-2. His parents Samuel & Margaret. Both were
single, both born Scott Co.There is a family story that when about 17 yrs old, he married an older woman
who was expecting a child just to give the child a name. Supposedly, he was
given a suit of clothes to do that. After the birth, they divorced. No evidence
that this story is correct.
